AT THE LAKEHOUSE

Chris and Becky contacted me in 2016 to talk about designing a ‘Lakehouse’ for them that could be used all year round – in the summer for cottaging and in the winter for ski season. They loved their location on the water but the old cottage was quickly becoming too small for their young family. They wanted space for them and their extended family to enjoy time together. They also wanted the flexibility of being able to rent out a separate Garage Loft when they didn’t need the space. The old cottage was demolished. With 2200 square feet of living space on the main and second floor, the new ‘Lakehouse’ is roomy (it can sleep 16), bright, and all the principal rooms have a view of the lakeside activities. The living areas extend to covered porches and a screened ‘Muskoka Room’ with a wood-burning stove that can be enjoyed in three seasons. The self-contained Garage Loft (650 square feet) has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, and an open area with a kitchenette, dining and lounging area.
